Description: The ISM Non-Manufacturing Index is a summary of 10 non-manufacturing indicators. While often referred to as a service index, the non-manufacturing index contains other non service elements such as construction, mining and agriculture. For this reason the index is called non-manufacturing as opposed to service.

Key Point: An Index report of over 50% indicates that the non-manufacturing portion of the economy is expanding, while a report below 50% will indicate a decline.
