Definition:

Many economists are in the business of predicting the future or forecasting the economic conditions looming in the near future. With this in mind, economists focus on several “Leading” indicators namely initial unemployment claims, building permits, the ISM purchasing managers report, and yield curve. These leading statistics attempt to offer a snapshot of the economic picture 6 months to a full year out because they usually move before the general market.
