Description:
Wholesale Inventories report sales and inventory levels of manufacturing activity from the second stage of production.
Released:
At 10 am on the fifth business day of the month, covering survey data from two months ago
Calculation:
The survey calculation is performed by mailing out 4,000 surveys to wholesalers chosen from the “Business Register.”
Key Point:
Wholesale inventories do not move the market that much because the data only focuses on the wholesale level, not the end product. The end product is more important because that is what the consumer will purchase thus effecting personal spending levels. The estimated data is also used as an input for GDP in the sales and inventories category.
